Art was always in the backseat in Chris’ career but ever present. She earned her BA in business at East Carolina University and a minor in Art. Then completed her MBA in marketing from University of West Florida. After a 30-year career in which Chris was a senior executive for firms in venture capital investments, technology business development, and pharmaceutical global digital marketing, she left Philadelphia to pursue her passion for art. While working with Digitas Health, a member of Paris-based Publicis Groupe, she formed her silversmith business, Fishbone Designs, in her home and honed her metalworking skills with Moore College of Arts in Philadelphia. Chris left the corporate world in 2009 to move to Carolina Beach and in 2011 was able to fulfill another goal when she opened Artful Living Group with partners Mo Linquist and Janet Knott.
Chris has silversmith training from Moore College of Arts and Design in Philadelphia, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and Penland School of Crafts in Penland, NC.

Fishbone Designs reflects my mixed Japanese and Cherokee heritage with a balance of colors and shapes to create simple yet striking jewelry. I enjoy working with sterling silver because it has an energy that changes with the design through textures and colors. The stones I use are precious and semi-precious gems and polished natural stones from wonderful lapidaries around the world.
I embrace the aesthetic values of "Wabi-sabi", beauty in imperfection. "Wabi now connotes rustic simplicity, freshness or quietness, and can be applied to both natural and human-made objects, or understated elegance. It can also refer to quirks and anomalies arising from the process of construction, which add uniqueness and elegance to the object. Sabi is beauty or serenity that comes with age, when the life of the object and its impermanence are evidenced in its patina and wear, or in any evisible repairs.
I sell both wholesale and retail through fine galleries and gift shops.
